[Throughout the month of December, Fugo has slowly been placing a number of items underneath the Hill House Nattenfest tree. They are all neatly and precisely wrapped with paper featuring ugly sweaters (of course). He also fries up a large batch of struffoli and bakes some mustaccioli for the house. If you get a gift, you get a carefully-packaged portion of struffoli and mustaccioli.

When Sonic next checks in at the Hill House, he’ll find a gift from one of his housemates under the tree: a pair of (spray painted blue and red, obviously) strap on roller blades. Are these perhaps redundant for a Simulacrum who can shift into a wheeling mode? Maybe so. Is it really a good idea to give Sonic more ways to zoom around the house? Probably not! But also, there are flames on the wheels. So that's cool.]

[Under the Nattensfest tree on Nattensfest day, Sonic will find a number of things waiting for him:

A fluffy stocking similar to Reira's with 100% more marbles in place of the candy.

His own stack of mad libs. Steve made sure not to get any duplicate copies, so that none of the kids will know exactly what to expect while they're crafting their word salad.

A couple of potato guns.]

[For good ol' Nattensfest, Sonic will be gifted a kite made from various blue fabrics with different patterns stitched nonsensically together. Its tails have little ribbons tied on in a sequence of red, white, red, gold. He also gets a heart keychain made from light brown, off white, and light pink beads.]

[How Niina delivered this, no one can say how. (She asked people who knew Sonic better than her.)

Under the festive wrapping paper is a metal lunchbox. On the front is a cartoon graphic of a well dressed tiger-like manticore, his lab coat hanging off his frame as he points dramatically at a pair of children, one a harpy and the other a scruffy looking werewolf. A decal proclaims it as a scene from 'The Thrilling Escape from the Tyrannical T. Tiberius!'. Inside there's a little thermos that has a decal of some other young monsters in a similar cartoon style with the label 'Caper Corps'.

Of course this wouldn't work for someone without a mouth... but inside the thermos? Is a thin bottle of mechanical oil perfect for squeaky joints. Inside the lunchbox itself is various batteries and vacuum tubes. The package wasn't labeled but the note gives it away:

As another Simualcrum without a mouth, I know how hard it is to get different tasting food. I found that different voltages carry slightly different flavors, as do different brands. I included some that I've snacked on myself.

The vacuum tubes also taste different.

Apparently the Caper Corps is popular among the kids of Bavan.

On the 25th, in bright blue paper and neatly addressed to Sonic there comes a small parcel. Dick's taken time to include Haley on the tag, with a messy ink pawprint next to his own neatly signed name.

[Frankly, Black Hat wants no part in any gift-giving ritual, secret or not, and with the warning to make it a nice gift, he's doing the exact opposite.

Some time after the Nattensfest festivities have ended, Sonic receives a neatly wrapped box. When touched, it's fairly evident there's some sort of mechanical device active inside, a small motor running on a limited power source. Opening the box reveals its gruesome contents: a rudimentary life support system maintaining lungs, a heart, and a brain on a machine, just barely enough to keep all three organs alive and 'functioning' for a short few days. If the battery dying doesn't end this poor soul's life, the lack of an immune system will.

Flug does know his way around these sorts of things.

Of course, none of that will be a problem, as opening the box will trigger the machine keeping the heart pumping to accelerate the rate, going faster and faster until the organ messily bursts in a lovely poof of gore. At least the sap's misery ends with it?

At the very bottom of the box, should it be sifted through, there is a laminated card with a black hat logo in a circle on it and nothing more. Nothing 'secret' about this Secret Santa gift!]

They're not allowed to come over. Reira says maybe they will be someday, but it has to be something everyone is okay with. Whatever I believe...it won't keep people from getting hurt inside their hearts. Sorry. I'm happy you listened, even if I couldn't make it stop hurting. Hello, Sonic.

I'd like to organize something for Beat. His birthday is coming up in a few days, and I thought that it might be good for him to receive a few messages from the people he enjoys being around and talking to, to let him know just how much he's appreciated. If there's any day to show him a bit of love, this is it, and I can assure you that it is very much needed, even if he won't admit it.

This isn't an obligation to get him a gift, though I certainly won't stop you if you'd like to. But, sometimes, a message we can go back and reread when our minds are turning against us is a gift worth more than something you can hold in your hands.

His birthday is August 1st, and we'll be hosting a small get-together at the following location:

[ The horrible days of feeling sick and coughing up metal, of slowly and agonizingly transforming back into the form the Fog gave her, are over. Nanami has roots again - and leaves, and bark, and all the plant things that became foreign to her as soon as she arrived in the E+Lplex and they put her to sleep and surgically changed her body and its abilities. It was only ever going to be a temporary vacation, if that's even the right thing to call it - a vacation of war, and heartache, and fighting her friends - but at least it was a vacation from being rooted, continuously and literally, to the ground.

Now she has to relearn how to walk again. It won't be as bad this time, but the specifics of how to make a root system ambulate, all the little moving parts and intricacies - well, it's a complex thing and does need to be relearned, just like a naga might need to relearn how to slither, or a merperson might have to relearn how to swim.

She misses being a merperson sometimes, and the lake's a calming place to go anyway; so she finds herself there sometimes on her wanderings, staring out at it, remembering the summer she spent underneath.

There's a mess of machinery sitting by the lake. Curious; nobody's around who might have left it behind. Souda?... She hasn't seen him for a while, actually. Maybe it's scrap parts he can use...

She moves closer on her roots, and a pit of ice drops into her stomach. At this distance, she can see what the machine is-- WHO it is, more accurately. Nanami cries out with dismay and lowers herself down to his side, carefully laying a leafy hand on him - is he breathing? Is he alive?

Why is he here? Wasn't he going to stay in Felfri? ]
